Research Consultations

Research assistance is available on a walk-in basis at the Reference Desk during the Library's regular hours. However, if you are working on a detailed and complex research assignment you may find it beneficial to set up a Research Consultation to meet one-on-one with a Librarian to discuss your question or project.

Research Consultations are customized, private, one-on-one meetings with a reference librarian where we teach you how to research your specific topic. You can expect to learn such things as selecting the best databases to search, search strategies, and citing your sources.

Please note, Research Consultations are available to current CCC students, faculty and staff only.

Preparing for a Research Consultation

You are expected to actively participate in the research process. We will show you different options, provide you with tips, and guide you in the right direction, but we will not do the research for you.

When you meet with a librarian for your consultation, you should have at least attempted the research process on your own. When you sign up for a consultation, you will be asked what attempts you have made and what information you might have already found.

Please come to your consultation with all needed materials, an open mind, and a willingness to learn.

Scheduling a Research Consultation

Appointments are available Monday-Thursday between the hours of 8:00am-7:00pm and on Fridays between 8:00am-12:00pm.

Consultations require at least 48 hours notice, excluding weekends, from the time of the request. Session lengths will vary depending on the student’s information need, but should typically last 20-30 minutes.

You can schedule a consultation with one of our librarians by contacting the Library via email or phone at 704-669-4024. You will be contacted within 24 hours, excluding weekends, to acknowledge receipt of your request.
