During the course, students will be required to write one paper. Students should choose a movie from the list on Bb (ONLY the list on Bb). The student will examine the historical accuracy of the Hollywood movie. It is mandatory that students use outside resources, in-text citations, and a work cited page.

For instructions on how to create APA 7th edition citations, please see the APA Citations page.
Plagiarism will not be tolerated at Cleveland Community College and especially in the classroom. The student must use some system of citations in the paper. There are books in the Library, as well as websites that can help the student do this correctly. If a part of the paper is quotes directly it should be in quotation marks and the sources cited. If a potion of the paper is paraphrased, this should also be cited. Every paper should have in-text citation. Every paper should also have a works cited page. Sources might include websites, movie reviews, books, and TV programs. I strongly encourage student to the CCC Rose Library. It can be accessed online. Each student is expected to do his or her own work for this class. Students may not write papers together. Evidence that this has occurred will result in the college Academic Dishonesty Policy begin pursued. Plagiarism will result in an F for the class. For more information on plagiarism and its consequences at CCC, please see the catalog.
No Works Cited Page: -25 points
No In-text Citations: -15 points
The paper is worth 25% of the total grade. This is not an English class, so the emphasis is on the content. However, a college paper should have correct grammar and spelling as well as proper citations. This paper will be graded on 2/3 content and 1/3 grammar, etc.. However, if the paper contains more than 10 mistakes, the student will receive a grade of zero!!!! Proofreading is not a choice; it is mandatory. Students will have access to Pearson Writer. This is a great resource and you will be shown how to use it in class.
The content of the paper is the most important portion of the paper. The student needs to select three aspects of the movie that he/she can analyze as to its historical accuracy. Who were the main characters? Were they real, historical figures, or were they fictional? The major events of the movie- were these events actual or were they fictional, or somewhere in between the truth and fiction? Do not try to review the entire movie. The student only has 800 words in which to write an historical analysis. The paper should not list all of the things correct with the movie. The paper is about historical inaccuracy!!! The student should find three things WRONG with the movie. Listed below is a suggested outline:
I. Introduction - This paragraph should contain a brief synopsis of the movie and the points that the student feels are historically inaccurate.
II. Paragraph 2 - This paragraph should contain the first point. For example, if the movie Pocahantas were used, this paragraph might discuss the appearance and ages of Pocahantas and John Smith. This paragraph would analyze how the movie portrayed the two and what history states about the two.
III. Paragraph 3 - This paragraph should contain the second point. Continuing with the movie Pocahantas, this point might look at the relationship between Pocahantas and John Smith. Again, examine how the movie portrays this and then examine the historical sources to see the truth.
IV. Paragraph 4 - This paragraph should contain the third point. For the movie Pocahantas, a third point might discuss the leadership of the colonist. The paper would discuss what the movie says about this point and then examine that for historical accuracy.
V. Paragraph 5 - This will be the conclusion of the paper. It should reiterate the points of the paper and provide a summation of the historical accuracy of the film.
