Course Accessibility Checklist

The following checklist serves as a guide in evaluating  courses for accessibility compliance. This checklist follows guidelines to meet the WCAG 2.0 AA compliance standards.

Accessible Documents and Content
Use Heading styles and other built-in structures like ordered and unordered lists.
Use real text not text that is a graphic.
Use basic, simple, easily-readable fonts.
Do not use blinking or moving text.
Choose text  foreground and background colors to enhance readability. 
Use alternative text for all images.
Use tables for data with logical left-to-right top-to-bottom reading order.
Designate a header row and include a title in tables.
Run the Accessibility Checker within Word when creating Word documents.
Accessible Web Navigation
Ensure course can be navigated or operated with keyboard navigation.
Accessible File Names and Hyperlinks
Use alphanumeric values. Use dashes if needed.
Do not include any spaces.
Do not include any special characters.
Do not exceed 31 characters when naming files.
Convey the following when creating hyperlinks: Where is the link going? Why is the link provided? What happens when the link is clicked?
Accessible Images, Charts, Graphs, and Diagrams
Use alternative text for all images, charts, graphs, and diagrams. 
Use a long description if the images, charts, graphs, and diagrams are more complex. 
Include the alternative text or long description somewhere in the document that readers may access. 
Accessible Video and Audio Checklist
Provide transcripts for all linked audio files.
Do not set audio and/or video files to auto-start and do not loop.
Provide captions and audio descriptions (when needed) for linked and embedded multimedia clips.
Include links to all necessary plug-ins.
Accessible PowerPoints
Build slide shows using a built-in PowerPoint slide layout.
Give each slide a unique title.
Ensure all content in the slide show appears in the outline view of the show in the same order it appears on the slides.
Follow all guidelines for creating accessible documents and content.
Accessible PDFs
Follow all other course accessibility guidelines.
Ensure structure tags are enabled when saving as PDF from a Word document.
